Smith Miniplane DSA - 1

A small aircraft but a large model. Due to the fact that the original is a relatively small aircraft a large scale could be chosen The model is  the 1:2,8 reduced version of the original. The model built from that kit will satisfy highest requirements as far as scale appearance is concerned.  The prefabricated  high quality parts only have to be assembled and glued in place. Numbering of the parts is sub assy related which will support their installation. All piano wires are already bent in shape and silver soldered. Everything  has been done to support building of that interesting model and to finalize it in short time.

The kit is like all our kits very complete. You will find all the rigging wires with their fittings and a pre manufactured tail wheel assembly in the box. Additional parts are GRP engine cowling and GRP wheel pants. Bulkheads and ribs are pre-shaped and ready to be glued in place without rework. A three view scale dwg., building instructions, colour schemas and rolled plans come with this model as with all our kits.

Flight performance of this model is as easy as it is with the original. The model may be flown by an average modeller. The strong forgiving undercarriage plus low wing load will allow to take off also from rough landing strips (before doing this you should disassemble the wheel pants).

Its brave flight behaviour  is described by David Brown in the June 1999 issue of the Modellflug International Model Magazine. He wrote: ”All aerobatics may be carried out with this model. Only roles tend to be barrel roles due to only having two ailerons. Equipped with a Zenoha 62 the model is extremely over powered (Zenoha 38 is enough for normal flying) and good enough to perform vertical climbs until stopped by the pilot. Due to that enormous power I do not have to continue to describe possible aerobatics to be performed with the Smith Mini. Final approach and touch down is absolutely easy to be carried out due to the model's absolutely low velocity flying abilities. Landing is as easy as  with the Taxi (a well known German model) which is famous for its easy handling.  The final approach is as easy as the take off: slow down the engine-fly straight to the airfield-flatten out-touch down- roll out- that’s it!”

Nothing to add to this description.
